Thomas Concrete Group is one of the leading suppliers on the market producing and distributing high quality ready-mixed concrete, to both commercial and private customers in the construction industry. The group, with headquarters in Gothenburg, has more than 200 sites around the world with over 2,000 employees. Västlänken and Karlatornet in Gothenburg are some Swedish examples where their concrete is used and supplied by the Swedish subsidiary Thomas Concrete.
They are also a leader in concrete material research and an important player in the markets they operate. They have long invested heavily in climate-improved concrete, which has been developed after extensive research and development. Everything to be a leader in sustainable community building.
Digital investments
In an industry that is not usually associated with IT and technology, Thomas Concrete Group is at the forefront, with major investments in digitization. Concrete is a perishable product and therefore high demands are placed on the logistics chain. With the help of apps and technology, they offer their customers several smart services. For example, GEO tracking on trucks to optimize delivery, push notifications when a product leaves the factory and an estimated delivery time.
Together with Microsoft, they have also developed a forecasting service where customers can follow the strength development in real time, how the concrete hardens, which also provides forecasts for when the concrete is expected to be ready.

Challenge
With large amounts of data and many employees based in different regions, a secure and efficient IT infrastructure is required. It needed to be made more efficient with better performance but above all with increased security. The solution would also be simplified and made more efficient in terms of monitoring, log management and management of common policies and settings.
Together with Fortinet, a current situation analysis was made where Fortinet then recommended Zitac as an expert partner, due to our consultants' high competence in data and network security. Zitac stepped into a critical time in the project and was able to bring the project to the finish line, quickly and efficiently.
Solution
With Fortinet's products, our network specialists Annika and Gustav set up a new redundant network structure with common centrally managed policies and settings, as well as central log management and monitoring. In total, there are 160 physical firewalls globally and set up in an Azure environment.
Through expertise, implementation and commissioning of new infrastructure with firewalls and central functions, Zitac was able to take the project all the way to the finish line.
